Bloodshot, burning eyes
Straining to remain open
In a darkened room
Hidden away from the midday sun.
There is nothing in existence
To make this moment any more perfect...
My Labrabull puppy
Lazily nipping at the feet of
My angel who dozes beside me.

I look at her beautiful mocha skin
And feel my mind begin to shift
To the night I first met her;
Crying and broken
On the sidewalk
The blood in her mouth
Confessing the sins of another.
Her eyes blazed with fire,
She has the spirit of a fighter.
That was the night
I vowed to protect her forever.

My mind now shifts back to the first moment, that of the present and how far she's come...
No longer timid nor scared
She has grown to be
Invincible and unstoppable,
Unbreakable though I know she's fragile.
The belt around her waist deems her a
National Champion,
And though she'll never forget the
Horrors of her past,
She seethes only forgiveness in the face of
Abusive parental demons.

My eyes fail me now and I drift to sleep
In my darkened room
