Far From Shore

The year bears winter’s sting
Once bloomed, all is withering.
A tear shares the gold heart string
Entombed, how they together sing.
I heard a joy longed for
Fly from lips that kiss no more:
A word wounded these lips pour…
Sigh! The keys to a haven’s door
Far from shore
Far from shore.

All love’s gods, blind and few
Craft suns only dreamers view
Some cry while some be blessed
To find that light in another’s breast

But now the haven’s mist calls
And the moon o’er the lone shore falls—
A crownless prince in search of thrones
Marches mirthless to the sea,
Sheltering the drowned bones
In his veil of misery.

Crown-to-crown in the deep
The lords of his faith now sleep
And they who drink in the sight
See faint a rising light:
Aurora gleaming that doth soar
To a far wave’s inviting roar
Far from shore
Far from shore…
