Image for the poem we fallen lovers

we fallen lovers

she’s a girl who aimed to go places.
there was a world full of
dazzling lights & rock symphonies,
dancing & French cafés & refugee orchestras.

she would carry love with her
but she’d break hearts if she had to.

she got lost along the way…

I’m just a hood from the back streets; by some crazy
twist of archaic romance, we found each other.
it’s a melancholy opera that couldn’t happen
except in poetry.

on bleak nights when most creatures are gone to slumber,
she’s in her lonely bed, under a moon big as Texas
(just a blue angel, maybe had a little too much to drink.)
I’m at my desk far away, in the jitterbug glow of a desperate
candle, writing faded blue poems like this one.

the wind howls right through the shaded window; it carries
the melody of her lusty lovesong, & caresses me in its
precious anguish:

it begins with   you feel so good inside me
& ends with     hold me…

fallen lovers we are, & I’ll be with her tonight
in the tranquility of a beautiful dream.

I blow out the candle…
