The haunted
Past injuries are never that; and
those who injured us once, again and again,
injure us still, again and again
reinjured we go into the world,
cover our wounds to hide our hurt
from those who would do to us;
run with the herd all the while keeping safe distance
and like stray cats driven by need come nearer
but never so close, never so near, as to risk
ultimate contact.

Always felt sorry for the strays, especially the very frightened ones. When I was a kid I knew a lady who would befriend the odd stray and it was quite painful to watch them. They wanted to take food from my hand but they couldn't do it.
Re. The haunted
This dropped like rock into the well of my consciousness, oh kissed one. It's an amazingly enlightening write filled with such a sad truth. And yet, hope too. Yes; hope, because those strays who seek Love strong enough will overcome and allow themselves to be rescued by the truth of it. *exciting* It's what we're here for, to remember. To love and be loved. And we'll do it over and over again until we get it right. THAT is the resilience of the human spirit's desire for experience. THAT is Love at its finest.

Can I assume it struck a chord with you? ;)
You have gone straight to the heart of the matter... so to speak. Love is the objective of most of us and even though the burn goes deep we still seek it, eventually.

Abused and abandoned strays are rescued every day. Every. Day. It just takes the right person for each individual as it does animal. The right person compels you to open up and trust. Do you not think?

That's a lot of people to search through and that takes time, as does building trust. Not saying it can't happen but it is a slow process.
And there is the option of going feral and just doing your own thing.

Re: Re. The haunted
Two things: I don't believe we need relinquish our ferility (I know that's not a word but it should be; I like how it sounds) to trust. On the contrary, I believe trust and love give us the freedom to be ourselves. We truly are feral in nature, all of us. We should be childlike and feral in our interactions and play. One cannot expect a wolf with the forest in his blood to live in the pasture of a sheep's, or the water of a duck's.
I don't believe in searching. I believe everyone should do their own thing where they're at and with what/who they have this moment. When the pupil is ready the teacher will come and open the doorway for advancement. Is is, however, up to us to step through.

Thank you, that is uplifting. And a good bit of independent feralness (or ferility) never did any harm.
