Hold on to me

I tried to look back at a simpler time
When I was young and you were mine.
We had love, young love ever so free,
But you had never taken a hold of me.

"Wish you did", I said with a smile
Gazing into eyes with tears of the Nile
Flowing like the falls of Rolling Thunder
Splitting sense, day and night, asunder.

I was the air longing to be held
To be tied down and to melt into arms
That would hold me forever, well
Away from another temptress's charms.

Dreaming of roads, dreams of dreams,
I had dreamt of possibilities in endless streams
But now, before you, I say I wished
For a dream's path we seem to 've missed.

An iteration of the past, you were
Everything she was, but not quite her.
A knot lacking passion in the art of love;
I am alone, the air, and the tears above.
