The Rattle

I pulled the chain
Towing the ball-
It rattled- silently
Stirring warm breaths
of morning's sight-

Blind passions blinked
Twice- watched me
Tow along, tugging
At the ball to roll more
Intently- as if-

He said the ball will
Itself roll, so why tug?
The weight is burdened
As I trudge- into the dark-
Feeling the strain

I carried a key- once
The ball rolled with ease,
Pulling but following I-
Cannot break the chain, for fear
Of losing the rattle
