Thy Scars

I kiss the scars upon thy skin,
Radiant trails that cannot be swept away;
Each whispering of pain that long has been
In the words you dare not say.

Kiss my palm--each troubled line,
Thy coldness soothes the quake in mine
Below this light of sunset red
That casts a crown upon thy head.

Each word a vibrant rose
That silently throws
A pall over my loneliness
With the allure of our sadness.

In terror my soul did wake
When my heart you swore to take.
A terror that lit the night
Without balm, but without fright.
And ah! All corners of my brain
Begged to scream
"Will we ever meet again?"
Begged to dream
"Wilt thou take my pain?"

And that fear holds me still
To think perhaps you will
Beg to know the same
When I speak the beauty of thy name.
