Water Short
There's water comin' outta my faucet
but maybe if it wasn't I'd be aware
that this state is in a fuckin' drought crisis
that's gone on for years
Our well pump was broken,
and with nothin' left in the tank
I bathed in a bucket of boiled water
and did my clothes in my friend's machine
I realise most people in America
don't know shit about shortage
we've got cell phones when our children are starvin'
those kids are drinkin' soda pop and gettin' all ADD
guess they don't know they got good water to drink
they just turn a lever it comes outta the sink
And yes, I'm a first world woman
voicing real world problems
skinnin' my knees on a deaf world's ears
but you gotta voice your fears
If everybody in this fuckin' state had to think
about when to wash their dishes and
whether their trees are gonna make it to spring
then maybe someone important would notice
that all of our moisture's
bein' robbed by the cold-hearted agriconglomerates
and they sell all the produce to the
rest of the country's supermarkets
but how about all them poor midwest
and east coast mother fuckers
what are they supposed to do
they need their veggies and fruits
durin' those cold harsh months when
nothin' gets produced
But it seems to me this
whole system is screwed
they're buyin up the rivers and streams
and leavin this golden state dry
same way like L.A. was built
on the destruction of another woulda been city
diverted water from less politically fortunate men
and put it in the desert where it never shoulda been
I'm not certain just what pattern
I'm fleshin' out here
I just got this feeling like
somethin' ain't fair
we got water flowin' all along this coast
an it sure seems like we're doin fine
but damned if I ever saw the reservoir this low
and I know where it's goin'
I don't give a shit if your toilet's dual flush
or if you time your fuckin' showers
fact is the businesses use eighty percent
and they got all the power.
