The Singular Eye

How long does it take
for the sun to set
once it has pressed
upon the horizon line?

Minutes may pass,
but,
on a page,
an eon
gilt with words
may sound describe
the motionless serenity
upon which rests
that singular immortality
of light
in that
while it yet lives
it will,
as a lighthouse,
draw the eye
to stay within
the power
of its reach.

And if that light
will yet reflect,
will those who know
at last lie down,
and, if so,
will they sleep?
