Jumping Hurdles

 ring marks on fattened fingers
with dirty finger nails
on white sheets
like landed fish

drips on arms
flabby heavy
with brown spots
an honorary leopard

lump on the bed
almost flowing over
one humongous leg
uncovered

and he cried
for the fingers that soothed him
when he was down
and they were hungry

he wept for the arms
that held him
when he was cold
and they didn't have a home

he cried for the legs
that walked with him
in his hard journey
in his path of life

Most of all he mourned
for her heart so generous
loving him so hard
now rested

"save me a place
where you rest"

he will jump hurdles
to be with her
again.
