Crumbs
That's how the cookie crumbles
Falling pieces on the floor
Remember how it was
When all was whole, intact, complete;
Every bite we took, we took for granted
Wasting all that we receive
Just a little, not enough--
Soon frantically devoured,
Consuming all down to the last,
'Till all is gone and nothing left
Nothing left but empty hands
and crumbs around our feet
The taste is always sweet;
Enticing us to eat
Melting pride upon the tongue
distracted, smacking lips
Demanding treats
Greedy mouths are easily deceived
Entitlement endows a helpless breed
with appetites they can't suffice
Engorged and fully stuffed
But still it's not enough
In hordes of hungry masses
They stand frowning at the ground
Pouting at the crumbs around their feet
