Image of god(s)

Hairless primates
slowly evolve,
declaring themselves
the image of god(s)
to justify
their love of creation
but more so
their desire
for the apocalypse.

they wrap fake fur around bare skin,
and call them clothes,
and then pretend
they're not animals,
forming packs
to divide and conquer
and fuck each other over,
all just a cover
to convince themselves they're better
than the other
variations
and subspecies
of their god's "chosen people".

hell-fire and damnation
on all the heathen nations,
theirs is the land
of the promise
of God's love,
earned by sacrifice,
fountains of blood,
while some gained
mountains of gold
in exchange
for turning their hearts cold.

It's all getting rather old...

but...
sometimes
empires
catch fire
and implode;
crumbling
under the weight of truth
and the right
group of words.
