Find Me Later
In a few days time
My life will end
There will be no
More girls giggling
On the couch or
Puffs of fragrant
Smoke disappearing
Behind my head or
Late nights waiting up
For you to lock the door
I will have peace and
Quiet and time to do
Things left undone
For years
In a few days time
You will swim downstream
And I will join the rest
Of the dust in this house
Wanting so much to cradle
Something living in my arms
You will strike out
And I will strike my banners
And head for home
Alone with empty hands
I watch the sun rise
Knowing I have bled enough for you
I will staunch my wounds
And turn aside
Hoping to find a place
Where hope shines
Without your brilliance
To overshadow me
Smiling to myself
I fix a cup of coffee
Sit down at the kitchen table
And wait
My life will end
There will be no
More girls giggling
On the couch or
Puffs of fragrant
Smoke disappearing
Behind my head or
Late nights waiting up
For you to lock the door
I will have peace and
Quiet and time to do
Things left undone
For years
In a few days time
You will swim downstream
And I will join the rest
Of the dust in this house
Wanting so much to cradle
Something living in my arms
You will strike out
And I will strike my banners
And head for home
Alone with empty hands
I watch the sun rise
Knowing I have bled enough for you
I will staunch my wounds
And turn aside
Hoping to find a place
Where hope shines
Without your brilliance
To overshadow me
Smiling to myself
I fix a cup of coffee
Sit down at the kitchen table
And wait
