Underneath
Somewhere down beneath our world lives another universe,
It glows in colours nobody sees,
Except the citizens that learnt how not to breathe.
Somewhere deep down beneath is a city
That hid from us beasts.
It shines in colours that have not been found,
It shines so bright my heart stops to pound.
Somewhere under the sea is a place where we are a mystery,
Like a tree that grew without seeds,
Or like a crime story with no leads.
Somewhere underneath that stunning blue
Is a palace with maybe a king or two
That rule better than anyone who lived on earth.
Somewhere underneath that ocean trench
Our sky is their outer space,
Our sun their biggest fear,
Our stars their nightmares.
Somewhere underneath that turquoise blanket
Is a place where volcanoes roam, spitting flares like we shoot rockets.
Where mountains grow higher than our biggest dreams,
Where fish swim freely like our brightest clouds,
While we strive higher they swim deeper to hide from their next predators,
While we try to fly they try to bury themselves underneath their city floors so us monsters won’t be able to scratch them with our poisonous claws
That cause scars bigger than their flowing oceans.
It glows in colours nobody sees,
Except the citizens that learnt how not to breathe.
Somewhere deep down beneath is a city
