This conjures so many images in my mind’s eye, and so many possible stories it could be telling. It partly reminds me of some of the general themes of Poe’s House of Usher tale, with the land becoming desolate due to the Usher family’s decline and ultimately their doom. Or some tales of King Arthur where the lands he rules become desolate and only the Holy Grail can bring it all back to life again. It has a gothic sensibility to it that I like a lot, and a sense of inevitability and finality that drives its’ point and themes home quite well. A great short work, and one I definitely like a lot! :)
