This Time
She allows her mind to wander
Freely, this time
No demands, no pressure
No persecution from the neighbors
Just that cheerful nurse popping in
The doctor later
A dead ringer for George Clooney
But strictly supervising her meds
Then a friend appearing at the door
A floral arrangement, a yellow rose
She hasn't forgotten how to smile
Feeling protected, this time
Paradise.

This is really about a neighbor of mine who had a breakdown and is now in the hospital. She seems happier there than on the property, sad to say. The room offers her some sense of security.

You're right Earth Child. It doesn't last. I was in one for 72 hours years ago then kicked out for not having any further actual plans. No intent at this point. Too much to lose. Thank you for that very personal share.

It's a fine breath of the inbetween place. I'm glad your friend found rest. Hospitals are a grim place for me, but sanctuary is in quiet, no expectation. Being able to drift in those quiet moments in that bed must have been something she was waiting on for a long time.
