Earth Day
A day of empty platitudes
reciting basic truths
to discard tomorrow
as we always seem to do
A sea of plastic refuse
kissing a beach of broken glass
cities sinking, drowning
beneath our endless heaps of trash
what can I do
as a fervent consumer
buying my comfort
the Earth cries while we consume her
Now praying for something
that one day will surely come
a reflection of our negligence
so we might see what we have done
A sudden reversal
split mankind asunder
as Earth roars back and destroys us
human nature pulls us under
*A work in progress. This will likely be edited several more times*
