Marriage

The best idea I ever had was to get married
To have somebody to fetch and carry
To have somebody to cook and clean
To have somebody to do what I tell them
To have somebody to pamper me
To have somebody to honour my whims
To have somebody to give me sex, every day
To have somebody to let me spend my own money
To have somebody to bring up my children
To have somebody to care for me when I’m 64
To have somebody to leave my estate to, when I die

The worst idea I ever had was getting married
I ended up fetching and carrying
I ended up cooking and cleaning
I ended up doing exactly what she told me to
I ended up and expert in pampering her
I ended up a slave to her every whim
I ended up having sex once in a blue moon
I ended up spending all I had on her jewellery
I ended up bringing up her children
I ended up alone; she left me when I turned 40
I ended up broke; she took me for every penny

Hindsight, in hindsight is a wonderful thing
To get to see what’s for you, behind you
Had I known then what I know now
I have no idea at all
Why I would ever have
Chosen marriage
