Streetlights and Misconceptions

The darkness is damp with the worlds frustration.
Inside where I dwell is candle lit.
The moisture of deceit does not reach here.
The flames can keep me warm for only a bit.

The first drop leaks in.
Bottle in hand,
As customary, I commit my first sin.
I keep my eyes trained for shadows.

Ones that move,
Ever so sly,
From corner to corner,
Until they hover where I lie.

I take to my feet,
I try to run.
Fall on my knees in the street,
I didn't make it too far.

I can't see,
My destination in front of me.
I take one last step into the light.
My hands shaking, I'm surrounded by night.

There in the streetlights and misconceptions,
That is where the truth is.
My thoughts spoken aloud, swirl around me.
I finally see, I am the falseness I ran from.
