Don't Confuse Smog For a Sunset
It is offensive to me
That a world full of greed
Can be so absolutely
Addicted to money
To the point that they
Would be willing to pay
To be able to say
That everything is ok
With children in the street,
No food to feed their family
While it’s so plain to see
There is more than plenty.
Tear stains streaking down the pavement,
Sweat stained mattress from paying the rent,
Vomit stained carpets from the pills to contain it,
Hands only warm from burning past due payments.
And the rich men lie to their little “friends”
That of course the world isn’t coming to an end,
The weather patterns are just a natural trend,
“Just wait a year or so, things will be better then.”
But they won’t
And you don’t
Believe that anyway,
Just as long as you get paid
It doesn’t matter what your grandkids will say.
That a world full of greed
Can be so absolutely
Addicted to money
To the point that they
Would be willing to pay
To be able to say
That everything is ok
With children in the street,
No food to feed their family
