What If
Bombs are exploding all around him
The end of his empire grows nigh
Millions dead casualties of the war machine
Six million dead, casualties of eugenics
World domination now just a pipe dream
The self proclaimed master of the earth
Now a frightened rat hiding in a bunker
A loaded side arm on the desk in front
A loyal footman guards the doorway
He ponders his lifes work now a failure
He considers potential ways of escape
He remembers a lesson taught in Sunday school
What if; rather than shooting himself
He gave his heart to Jesus
What if; He prayed that special prayer
Opening his heart to his god
What if; He invited Jesus into his heart
Asking for forgiveness of his sins
What if
Bombs were exploding all around her
Her city is systematically being destroyed
As a nurse she never stops from helping
The dead, the near dead and the injured
Men, women and of course the children
My great aunt Alice a saintly woman
Spent most of her life working tirelessly
For the good and health of others
Selflessly caring, loving, nursing
Now trapped in this dark and dank cellar
Orphaned baby nestling in her arms
A failed rescuer attempt not trapped together
Neither cry out, neither weep, both are calm
What if; the ceiling caves in
And both die having not sought salvation
What if; they both die from suffocation
Neither have prayed that special prayer
What if; they both die this very day
Neither of them being saved by the blood
As it happens Alice and Adolf die at exactly
The same day, date and time coincidently
Adolf then saved, a swan song conversion
According to scripture went to heaven
Rejoicing in the lord and at his good fortune
Aunt Alice despite a life of self sacrifice
Despite a life spent in the service of others
According to scripture went to hell
To be punished and tortured for eternity
What if; God was a just God
What if; God was a fair God
What if; God was in fact LOVE
What if; God actually existed
Clearly this could not happen
But what if
