I REMEMBER
I REMEMBER
I remember when I was just a boy
...I still remember my very first toy
Playing with toys on the living room floor
...and having a meal then asking for more
I remember mums washing blown by the breeze
... when I fell and grazed both of my knees
All of that blood looked like total disaster
...but mum quickly fixed it by sticking a plaster
I remember my aunties and uncles too
...all of the neighbours and friends I once knew
I remember that bird and how well it could sing
...and stuffed in my pocket were marbles and string
The games we played out in the street
...that extra half hour was such a treat
Games we played and toys we hid
...a game of football or looking down a grid
Hot summer sunburn till we’re pink
...then back indoors for a long cold drink
I remember how I loved my bike
...getting there quick whenever I like
I remember my comics they made me laugh
...allowed to read them after my bath
I remember my badge for doing first-aid
...something I did in the Boys Brigade
I remember my life with mum and dad
...and the love they gave me as a lad
I remember making things with pegs
...eating sweets and chocolate eggs
Ladybirds and playing with worms
...swam in the canal with all those germs
January through till late December
...these are the days that I remember.
I REMEMBER part 2
I remember walking to school each day
...with boys and girls I knew
The thing we had in common was
...the cardboard in our shoe
My friend had special glasses
...so big he called them goggles
I remember too my duffle coat
...that fastened up with toggles
A girl I walked to school with
...wore her socks one up one down
She took her Penny Bank book
...and inside was half- a- crown
I remember getting bullied
...they dragged me to the ground
My coat got ripped my books got wet
...I never made a sound
I remember well on Saturdays
...playing out and catching frogs
Or trying to catch a fish or two
...whils’t sitting on some logs
I remember going to the pictures
...a couple of friends and me
Flash Gordon and then Hercules
.., at the Tanner Matinee
