A STUMBLING INTO LIGHT (11-14-2004, sunrise; Galveston, Texas)
every life
ever lived
in relation
to every life
now gone
every life
still unfolding
in equation
with every life
still yet
to come
every open
heart in living
comes to
find its own
reward
every open
heart
in giving
receives its
share of good
every open
heart through
loving
comes to know
its truest god
in relation
to all those
unopened hearts
still closed
who un awakened
in their lives
come to find
no genuine
reward
who in their
taking only reap
more artifice
more cold
who in their
futile loving
only come
to know
their empty
gods
of self
of greed
of suffering
of illusory
temporal
power
yet hid
masked deep
within
the constant
self destructive
lower flux
and flow
of our
imperfect
ever evolving
free will
human lives
there exists
in each of us
an innate
human darkness
just waiting
to come out
to infect
and ruin
everything
it can
in contrast
to another
even greater
innate force
equally available
to us all
transcendently
above
beyond
to counter balance
neutralize
or irradicate
completely
that pervasive
inner darkness
from taking
full control
a light
so pure
so perfect
a love
so unconditional
in its infinite
peace
and truth
ever
awaiting
our inevitable
reawakening
just beyond
the blinding limits
of our
shallow
minds and egos
which each
unopened heart
must struggle
with alone
within
the murky
egoic minds
unconscious confines
of its
disconnected
self
until one day
at last
it unexpectedly
stumbles
or wondrously
arrives
through enlightened
grace
perhaps
suddenly without
question
or equation
nor
any further
doubt
back
into the
unfaltering
light
of highest
awakened oneness
inseparably
reconnected
with divine
ineffable
source
of
all

Thank you georgepalmdennis for your wonderful, surprising compliment! I can't recall a time in my life that I've ever been first at anything, so out of the many hundreds of thousands of diversely interesting, incredible poems here on DUP, written by an equally diverse & interesting, kindred community of creatively inspiring poets from dozens of countries all over & around the world, to be the first poet whose poem you first read & 'felt' some resonance of 'enlightenment' from & with, is truly quite a humbling honor for me to hear & read from you in your comment here! It is also a fairly 'exciting' thrill for me (not even knowing you!) to realize that I (& my poem!) were your very first, virginal read here on DUP!!!... So (in humorous, yet seriously imagined as well), DUP, underground, semi-erotic style, I'd like to thank you again for having allowed & chosen me to be the first poet & poem on here to have been given the joyful, satisfying, unexpected honor of 'popping' your love/lust of poetry's metaphorical 'cherry'!!! - lol (& welcome (from another Dennis) to DUP my friend!)
