I fond it both interesting and amusing how erotic poems get swarmed with reads and comments like flies on shit, but the poems with real meaning fall on deaf eyes...

Well, so far this one is winning, view-wise, but it would be a real hoot, to give all the spirital/deep poems, raunchy, fap-worthy titles, hit the extreme content, and watch the flies swarm to the "shit" and get Bible lesson instead of an ejaculation.  Booya!  Surprise!  (and the view-counter still spins away, regardless...trickery)

You get a lot of kudos for submitting a two word poem and your point, in general, is well made especially as it is the only thing to make me smile today :-)

However, when I first joined deepunderground having been writing poetry for over 30 years, I had never written an erotic poem nor read one. Some of the erotic poetry on here is excellent poetry and cannot be faulted, unless somebody was making a moral point rather than a literary one. Even I have now dabbled and whilst the hit rate initially went through the roof it is clear that what I write as erotic poetry is not erotic poetry in many people eyes.

I value poetry in general, all genres, There is a line between valuing and enjoying which I wont go into. It does however appear that the dirtier the poem the more hits it gets and that's a shame - anyway just my 10cents worth

All true, and I am not saying anything at all about erotic poems, I have written many myself. I am pointing out that readers ignore many very fine poems while gravitating to anything sexual. Just look at the counter. Over 80 reads in less than half a day on a poem because it was marked as erotic and explicit, and the title isn't even sexually interesting. Meanwhile, my other poem has only a handful of reads. I'd like to open the minds of the readers on this site to more than masturbatable rhymes. And even those can be written with more passion without being just a bunch of dirty words describing how cocks fuck cunts and asses. I mean, there's only a couple ways that can happen, in and out. Until somebody can show me how to make it go in sideways or backwards without cutting it off, can we at least get some metaphors and imagery in the lines to make it interesting? I feel like we've beaten the dead horse of sex into a bloody mass of gelatin. There must be something more out there, or in there that will put the fun back into erotic poetry. I'm bored with it and quite frankly, so is my cock... JJ

I actually agree with everything you've just said. Most poets are self deprecating in my experience, but having said that I believe I have written a few good poems that have been seen by only a few. I experimented with a few erotic poems which in my view were not that good and one of them got 351 reads - (‘To Fuck You’)

i'm defined as a writer of erotica but i go across all genres and feel i've written some worthwhile ones that are not erotica but they get few hits...
last year i put 'a whinge in writing' under erotica/extreme just so people would read it...

Thanks Kate! I also write erotic poems from time to time, probably have a dozen or so are posted here, but mixed in with 300 others it might not seem like much. And I do enjoy reading erotic poems as well, but I get tired of the descriptions of sex acts that are barely poetic and read like someone waving a flag that says " I love to fuck" and not much else. Then those poems get red 10 times more than the rest with a boat load of brainless comments like, "awesome sexy write" and the like. So my two cents worth is two words worth... jj
