Into the Flesh
She sobs...
Staring at the mirror with eyeliner running,
she wonders what she has become.
Who is this monster?
She can't even recognize herself anymore.
Screaming, she slams her fists into the glass.
A thousand shattered pieces,
A fractured image.
Shakily, she fumbles for a shard
and meets a single moment of hesitation as she clumsily fingers it,
and ponders her fate.
Muffled sniffling...
She closes her eyes, letting the pain slide
over the surface of her cheeks.
She sinks her teeth into her bottom lip as she
buries the piece into her wrist.
An exhalation...
A whimper...
She drags it lengthwise, burying it deeper and deeper
into her soft flesh.
Dizziness...
A crimson pool on the sterile white sink.
One hand...two...
She disappears into the vortex of her own misery.
Unconscious,
Only a lifeless heap on the tile floor.
