Something in the DNA
Something in the DNA
Inherited on one cursed day
Pick up that bipolar bop
Mood swings that will never stop
Some heartbreak of brittle bones
Arthritic joints are filled with stones
Vertebrae are misaligned
Face structure terribly designed
Preteen hair is turning white
Mouth distorted by an overbite
A snout to make a mother cringe
Scales to drive her to a binge
Ears that pick up only lies
Demons spotted by these eyes
Drop down on my knees and pray
That it's just something in the DNA.

We are all blessed (or Cursed) with the wonderous gifts of our families genetic make up, the key is adapting and being thankful you haven't got something really weird.. because as we all know, there is always somebody who has it worse!
Cheers! Crow, love the flow!

Thanks Scot. My brother was born with a tail. Just kidding, but I see your point.

I'm sorry if you are feeling like I am lately, my friend. You seem like a fantastic person and a real gentleman, and that goes a really long way in my book. (I assume you were fishing for compliments...just kidding! I only try to say what I mean. I figure it is the least I can do in this crazy world we live in). This is a strong poem, thank you for sharing it.

Only partially. I started writing about myself and got a little carried away. My genes are strictly designer.

Makes me think of Mask, and the Elephant Man and a short story from years back, about ergot-poisoning and birth defects and a demon-looking baby in a jar kept by the Vatican from Salem. It's important to change perspective though, and get real humanity. Thanks for the reminder, comrade. This piece was real.

That sounds like an amazing story. There's a Ray Bradbury story called "The Jar," a true classic.
