Tonight We Will Get There

"Only in darkness can you see the stars."--Martin Luther King, Jr.

in the End
I see you and weep
we will remember
jumping out the window
flying to Grandma
not the words of our enemies
God needed you
plucked you from the heavens
placed you back on earth
but the silence of our friends
how your voice carried
with such eloquence
like Jesus you were wronged
tormented
let justice roll down
still nothing
could corrupt your dream
of a nation of togetherness
roll down
saint at a pulpit
feeding sweet truth to your flock
like waters and righteousness
racing like regal horses
trampling ignorance and hate
like a mighty stream
in the forest we will find
the quiet and the dark
tonight we will get to

I will fight
in my heart
my lone lonely heart
a candle against the darkness
the cosmos will shiver
dripping with constellations
crystalline echoes of truth

for

tonight
we will
get to
the promised land
