Lincoln and Darwin Were Born on the Same Day: Feb 12, 1809

Tomorrow is February 12.
So let's compare Lincoln and Darwin.
Lincoln was "the Great Emancipator,"
THE liberator of the slaves.
But Darwin also liberated mankind.
He freed Christians from Biblical bondage,
Enslavement to Adam and Eve,
Supposedly, our first parents,
According to the Creation story in Genesis(chap. 2),
The first of the 5 books called "the Law of Moses."

Preachers tell us,
"There were no carnivores, originally.
But then Sin came into the world due to Adam and Eve.
The Fall of Man brought down God's curse on Nature.
That event turned some creatures to become carnivorous."

Now THAT is the kind of garbage
I am calling "Biblical bondage."

For centuries and up til even the 1930s
Chinese women used to have their feet wrapped,
So as to keep them the size of children's feet,
Crippling them - for no good reason!

Likewise, the minds of Christians
Used to be wrapped by the limitations
Of the Adam and Eve Creation Account,
Keeping their understanding at the level of children!

But it was for a good reason!
So that outstanding Christians
- like Darwin, Alfred R. Wallace -
Could get the credit for discovering
the true account of the Creation of Life,
The origin of the various species,
With Man as the Crown of Creation.

Why did God keep this from Moses and the Jews?
So that He could show favoritism to the Church.
For as Darwin, Wallace, and Fr. Gregor Mendel made discoveries,
It is the Church - The Christian Church - which gains the glory!
For Her part in producing these champions of the faith!

And when the Church gets glory,
God the Father gets glory thru the Church.
For we read in Paul's Letter to the Ephesians,
"Glory to God thru the Church and Christ Jesus"(Eph 3.21).
The Church is His means for getting Glory!

The Bible is supposed to be inerrant,
The infallible Word of God, of course.
But where the Bible falls short, and it does,
The compensation is in terms of Christians
Who bring glory to God, for a net zero loss!

Instead of the glory of having an infallible book,
We have the substitutionary thrill of having giants among us!
We Christians, NOT the Moslems, the Buddhists, etc,
Are able to boast of Darwin, Wallace, Mendel, etc, in our ranks!

There is enough truth in the parts
of the Bible that are false
To warrant our continued veneration.
The Bible shouldn't have to be perfect.
As long as it comes from God,
That should be good enough!

The LORD fed the Israelites with manna
(Exodus 16,Numbers 11,Deuteronomy 8).
I'm sure they preferred meat and gravy
But "beggars can't be choosers."
They had to settle for what they could get.

Likewise, with the Bible,
Some parts of it are mere manna.
But it is  not our place to require perfection.
(That would be like the Israelites demanding steak.)
We are beggars, not deserving of even an imperfect book.
It is presumptuous, the height of cockiness,
For us to stand on Biblical inerrancy!

Like the man said,
"My country, right or wrong!"
I say, My Bible, infallible or FALLIBLE!

When a man's wife is young,
He loves her for her beauty, let's say.
But when the decades take a toll,
Does he say, "You are no longer beautiful,
So we're thru"?
Of course not.
His need for beauty is replaced,
by his pride in himself
That he remains loyal to her,
And she to him.

Ditto for the "beauty" of having
an infallible holy book from God.
Over the centuries the promise of perfection has faded.
The Bible's flaws make it like a woman with wrinkles, etc.
But is that any reason for the "marriage" to end?
(By marriage I mean the union
between the Bible and the believers.)
Not at all!

For in place of inerrancy or infallibility
Is the satisfaction of our knowing
that the Second Coming of Christ,
 - the Central Promise of the Bible -
Is still valid, still a rock-solid certainty,
But more than that - it is right around the corner!

In place of an inerrant Book,
We have something more than the equivalent!
We have the inerrancy of the core doctrines of the Bible.

Christ's flesh was torn and broken,
But His bones, the inner core of His body,
Upon which the flesh hung,
Remained unbroken!
Ditto with the Bible.
The "flesh", the secondary or outer part,
Can be broken, disproved.
But the backbone,
The weight-bearing walls,so to speak,
Remain intact,UNBROKEN!

Christ is the living "Word" of God(John 1.1-17).
Likewise, the Bible is the written "Word of God,"
"Living" only in the metaphorical sense(Hebrews 4.12)).
On that basis, it's only natural
For there to be certain parallels
Between "the Living Word"(Christ)
And the Written Word(the Bible).

Just as one part of Christ's body was broken,
While the other part was not,
It is only fitting that only part
of the Bible to be inerrant,
Rather than all of it.

So, you could say that
It's on the basis of the Cross,
That i make my case for the fallible Bible!
