A Mastery Of Language

I meant to write a masterpiece
About the world and sky
The sun and moon and stars
And a set of clear blue eyes
A masterpiece full of wonders
Life full of laughter and tears
Damnation, joy, dismemberment
Deterioration of sanity in a sum of years
One of forbidden gods, Jealous lovers
A history of sin
Decadence and stained-glass windows
Stolen jewels and whiskey and gin
I meant to write a masterpiece
Of love eternal and love denied
A tale of woe and horror
One of broken pride
Volumes of sentiment
And poetic scorn
The danger of stormy nights
Stories of how heroes are born
Platitudes of innocence
Screaming, Shrieking wild
Batting lashes, Sensual curves
And evil made meek and mild
I meant to write a masterpiece
About the harmonies that demons and angels sing
But when i sat down with my pen
I couldn't think of a single, solitary  thing.
