Of-fence-ive
Beginnings of misunderstandings through miscommunications
Laid poor foundations for our mutual disdain
With ignorance for mortar and 6 weeks to cure
We set our path of pain in concrete
In an exchange of legal advice
Words like unsheathed weapons
Revealing crooked intentions
And a battlefield awash in spite and anger
In a final act of desperate benevolence
To dodge the magistrate’s hammer
You waste no time in making your final strike
Erecting your wall of poison chemical wood
Regrets choke, in your claustrophobic affront
Unmanned in my own back yard
By your oppressive weight and idolised isolation
In turn bringing out the worst in me

Words can do lifelong damage, sadly... I think we've all been to this point. In my experience it's best to communicate asap and not allow anger, spite or tension to fester. That stuff likes to eat people alive and destroy all in its path. Putting up walls only perpetuates the cycle. The challenge is recovering from it and most of all learning plus applying the knowledge to next time. I truly hope the person on the other side chooses to work with you...

Thank you Wounded Heart. As each day dawns, things get a bit easier.I would never have thought that something physical could engender such a strong emotional reaction within me.
I think my Cancerian nature has been challenged by this to some degree, like someone has cracked my shell, or shifted some kind of uncouthly placed rock into my rock pool...

I'm guessing this is the story of a divorce, but I might easily be wrong. First the mutual disdain, then the legal recourse. It brought out the worst in you, who as far as I can tell is a kind man. I have never been through a divorce, but I've been through the kind of legal and personal hell that could have turned me into a monster if I'd let it. Maybe it did. I know this kind of fury and pain is hard to shake, if that's even possible. This is fine work, Frank, and I'm sorry if it was you who was put on the of-fence-ive.

I was vaguely cognisant of this poem very much being in that space of a irrevocable relationship breakdown, and in many ways it has been.
I now feel physical revulsion towards my neighbors, and I think the thing that cuts the most about this is that whilst I initially set out to fight and prevent it, then after some exchanged words, thought I would do the 'neighborly' thing, only to find that my decision now feels fundamentally erroneous, now that there is this imposing wall of treated pine wood marring my view of mostly uninterrupted green nature.
So you are 100% accurate in your assessment as always Crowfly - this was indeed a relationship breakdown which has resulted in a physical scar on something that is deeply centering - my home. It really is like a physical strike at my being.

An honour Zazzles, likewise, I have been perusing your back catalogue of significant works and have very much enjoyed the pearls that dwell in that collection!
The road was ugly, the destination - unsatisfactory, but I am at a bit more peace with it this week.
