just to feel something

She said, “don’t attach yourself to people
because you’re lonely”
and you know you failed that one decree
because you’re already ball and chained yourself
to those that could hurt you
without a reason

You hate that you need people
that you can’t live a life entirely alone
because you know that loneliness kills
and peace
doesn’t make for good art

For a while you forgot
how good it felt to laugh
over the little things in life
and while her philosophies reverberate
through your head
you like the way risk feels
without it
you might as well be dead
