The Mirror (Large Steps)
She hasn’t seen, recently, herself in the mirror
Taking large steps each time
Racing the sun westward each afternoon
With the bees and the trees and unfamiliar things
Dreaming that the night will never come soon
We’ve all heard by now that the days don’t play fair
These days keep one for themselves
She keeps one in her back pocket
Be it brevity or verbosity
We’re bringing shit up constantly
Call it dementia or insanity
I’ll take it back for humanity
I miss when she would stand with me
She used to call me family
Used to be holding hands when we
Were alone and safe and alone
Now I’m avoiding using
Fucking profanity but choosing
To let it all out - abusing
The space between
You and me
She hasn’t seen, recently, herself in the mirror
Maybe take a day, babe and take away the pane
Removing the glass between the mirror and you
Might make you see clearer, but I don’t know, dear
I don't know
Taking large steps each time
Racing the sun westward each afternoon
With the bees and the trees and unfamiliar things
Dreaming that the night will never come soon
We’ve all heard by now that the days don’t play fair
These days keep one for themselves

The space between
