We Need to Continue Putting Aside the Law of Moses
In the first Christian century
The Church leaders decided
"Not to make it hard for those coming to God"(Acts 15).
The Gentiles didn't have to become Jews
In order to be saved, accepted by God.
They didn't need to be circumcised,
No longer abstain from eating pork.
Even though the Bible commands us to do so!
Was it really asking too much,
Like Peter says(Acts 15.10)?
Was it really "a yoke on the neck..
which neither our fathers,
Nor we were able to bear"?
Was circumcision that painful?
Is pork really THAT delicious,
That we couldn't give it up
Cheerfully, painlessly, easily?
The problem wasn't Jewishness.
If the Gentiles were all willing to become Jews,
Would that have remedied the situation?
No, no, no, it wouldn't have!
The real problem was the Jewish Bible!
There were some parts of it
That were designed to be LET GO.
They were NEVER meant to be held onto forever!
Certain parts of the Torah
(The Law of Moses) are to be "put aside."
God had allowed certain things into the Old Testament,
Only because they were temporary,
To be dumped at the right time,
(The Coming of Christ).
God does things like that.
For example,Children's teeth are DESIGNED
To be replaced by a later set of teeth.
LSS:Some parts of the Bible are eternal(truth)
While other parts are temporary(a shadow of the truth).
Not all the Bible is on the same level.
It's not all one great big monolith,
like some preachers tell us!
If the Law were on a par with the Gospel,
As far as truthfulness goes,
Then why does John tell us,
"The Law was given by Moses,
But ..TRUTH came by Jesus Christ"(John 1.17)??!!
That verse is a slap across Moses' face!
(Of course I'm exaggerating.)
I like to use that verse as a verbal slap
across the faces of Law-Of-Moses lovers.
If circumcision and the ban on pork, etc
Are only the BEGINNING of the things
In the Law of Moses that need to be dropped
What are the real culprits, the problem passages?
Dropping circumcision and the ban on eating pork
Have been given to us - as precedents for us to go by.
They show us to "put aside" ADDITIONAL parts of the Law
That "make it hard for people to come to[Christ]"(Acts 15.19).
If the work of dropping part of the Law
Wasn't finished in the first century,
Then we today must continue that maturation process
By jettisoning OTHER parts of the Law of Moses!
Namely, the "Six Days" of Creation Week(Genesis 1).
Plus the Adam and Eve Creation story.
Plus the Fall of Man account(Genesis 3).
We don't throw out the Fall of Man.
We update it by turning to Romans 1.21-32:
It is the Apostle Paul's commentary
On the Fall of Man in Genesis 3.
Notice he gets rid of the props,
Such as the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil,
And, of course,the Talking Snake.
In effect, Paul de-mythologizes the Fall.
He dispenses with euphemistic language,
Instead, he speaks plainly,
"Not like Moses".
He takes away "the veil"
That is on the Law of Moses(2 Corinthians 3.12-16).
PS:Paul didn't include Creation Week when
He told us we are "no longer under the Law"(Romans 6.14;Galatians 5.18).
Why not? Because at that time
- And up until the 1800s -
Creation Week(Genesis 1) wasn't a problem at all!
It is only as science(the gift of God)
Has discovered the great age of the world (and universe)
That Genesis 1 has become terrible "Stumbling Block."
It is WORSE than the pain of circumcision
was in the first century,
WORSE than being deprived of eating pork!
Surely, if pork was so appetizing that
The Church Leaders felt the need
To drop the prohibition on consuming it,
We would be following in their footsteps
If we open our minds up to the Big Bang Theory.
It is just as appetizing today as ham, bacon, pork chops!
Being expected to believe in Adam and Eve
As the first man and woman is a true HARDSHIP
An unbearable burden that shouldn't be placed
On the shoulders of the younger generation.
Unless you want to drive them into the arms
of the enemies of Christ - the atheists, the secular humanists!
