Here is to Darkness
Won’t you join me
My dear friends
Poets and fiends
In a toast
To ghosts haunting
Nightly in the wee
Hours of insomnia
And despair
Pour me green poison
Sweetly into goblets
For fairies long to sing
Songs of seduction
In woven dreams
Fleeting like salvation
Here is to winter
With the touch of death
Here is to mourning
In cemeteries
Here is to darkness
Like a lover’s first caress
Here is to morning
Won’t you stay gone from me, please?
Condemning mirrors
Judgmental and so harsh
Withered and scarred, faceless
Sing of damnation
Cursed and graceless
In their execution
Here is to laughter
There behind closed doors
Here is to weeping
Dying of flowers
Here is to heartbreak
Like a screw deep in the cork
Here is to shadows
Beyond the light, I cower
Here is to winter
With the touch of death
Here is to roses
Withering away
Here is to darkness
Like a lover’s first caress
Here is to slumber
Please stay and hold back the day

I love this poem and how it enfolds me in the ebony folds of Night's sparkling gown! Let the day be distant indeed... simply brilliant and epic writing, as always. Your works have the most uncannily beautiful way of shining light unto darkness! May it always be so, great poet. :D
