The Edge of the World
It became clear
All of the sudden
That I had been walking for some time
The earth had just finished transmogrifying
From asphalt into sand
And then even softer sand
I felt a burning gaze, in the way that one can
Insisting that I adjust my own
There stood you
You were already smiling
As you had already noticed
That I was in your line of sight
The gap that lie between you and I
Was interminable and awkward
So our steps noticeably hastened
But as we proceeded
To walk towards one another
Our partition protracted
My feet began to skip off of the ground
Forming a trot and then a run
And then a sprint
We were running
Out of sunlight
As I struggled to breathe
As we collapse from exhaustion
And I begin to crawl
I begin to think about how we had gotten here
And if I would ever actually reach you
There were miles between us
By the time our bodies had
Run out of energy and life
We lay there for the remainder
Of the night
Just outside of yelling distance
And embrace
All of the sudden
That I had been walking for some time
The earth had just finished transmogrifying
From asphalt into sand
And then even softer sand
I felt a burning gaze, in the way that one can
Insisting that I adjust my own
There stood you
You were already smiling
As you had already noticed
That I was in your line of sight
The gap that lie between you and I
Was interminable and awkward
So our steps noticeably hastened
But as we proceeded
To walk towards one another
Our partition protracted
My feet began to skip off of the ground
Forming a trot and then a run
And then a sprint
We were running
Out of sunlight
As I struggled to breathe
As we collapse from exhaustion
And I begin to crawl
I begin to think about how we had gotten here
And if I would ever actually reach you
There were miles between us
By the time our bodies had
Run out of energy and life
We lay there for the remainder
Of the night
Just outside of yelling distance
And embrace
