driftwood
a cold sun
the kind that gets you out of yard work
puts you in a hoody and vest
sunglasses and a beanie
fold out king's throne
dug in by the water
drinkin beer with a coozie
just to keep your hands warm
cooler and the dog that will never
wear a collar or a leash
chasin gulls
while they
chase her back
day drunk dream
of less frequent ups and downs
a lil consistency
people taking pictures
of something other than themselves
like before everything got digital
and the ol man
teaching the ancient art of rock skipping
was the best thing that ever happened to you

I could see this...
a memory deep from my recesses or a universal picture irrelevant of what country you live in?
the ability to weave your descriptive words allows the reader to see... :)

You created instant imagery; poof, out of nowhere. Awesome story telling here.

Down memory lane; a family togetherness that was far and few. Sepia rose tinted but it was a contented moment. Good read, John.

Re: driftwood
the ancient art of rock skipping -thanks for making me remember what magic this was/is
the "perfect" rock always the next one or the one after or...any way one of them finds a way to just keep skipping and skipping and concentric circles upon circles crossing circles - maybe accolades if there's a group, quiet odd reverence for what (who the fuck knows)if alone, skipping and skipping, then gone - like everything

Damn ... you took me back to the Carolinas ... I swear I think it's against the law there for dogs to have collars or leashes ... Rock skipping ... I loved that as a kid - smooth and flat is the secret
