'From Before'
Remember--O, recall!--the days of Yore
When one were two, ere two was naught but one.
Stand now, amidst this storm of Said and Done,
And mourn the love now titled "From Before."
Before the days grew short, ere nights grew long.
Before the Sun-God slept, ere hearts grew dim.
Like Summer ere the Ice, before you, him:
There was that love, in Autumn's fleeting song.
A love you loved with fire, gone to frost;
The heat of your desire, lost to doubt.
And where he stood, an echo still calls out
That nothing lasts, yet all comes with a cost.
Remember, now, this love called "From Before."
And hold it to your heart as Winter sighs
One day the pain might leave-- so dry your eyes
Or mourn this love--but not forevermore.
A love you loved with fire, gone to frost;
