I am naked before you
And still do not make eye contact
Who has the time to dig into themselves?
Not I.
I dress slowly before you,
Knowing what you see is far from perfect
I have scars
So many scars
And each one has a tale
But who has time to reflect and retell?
Not I.
Dressed at last
I sit before you
I look at the stranger and taking my straightener I tame the curls
This is just another day
Another day starting the same way
Shower and getting dressed
Doing my hair
Tweezing and squeezing and otherwise maintaining this form
And never making eye contact
I am no longer naked before you
And yet
Naked before you is all I ever am
I am naked before you
And still do not make eye contact
Who has the time to dig into themselves?
Not I.
I dress slowly before you,
Knowing what you see is far from perfect
I have scars
So many scars
And each one has a tale
But who has time to reflect and retell?
Not I.
Dressed at last
I sit before you
I look at the stranger and taking my straightener I tame the curls
This is just another day
Another day starting the same way
Shower and getting dressed
Doing my hair
Tweezing and squeezing and otherwise maintaining this form
And never making eye contact
I am no longer naked before you
And yet
Naked before you is all I ever am
