Train poems.
Written Friday 22/8/14 on a train to Glasgow.
1. If life
is a journey
and a journey
begins
with a single
step
how many
steps
is
a lifetime?
2. To be on the wrong track will derail you
to misread
life's board
will take
you to the
wrong station.
3. In life
we are always
passing
between two stations
unknownst to our destination
tickets written by choice
on cards printed by
circumstance
with costs
not of our choosing.
4. Keep right on track
you cannot fail
don't go off the rails
off the rails
it's hard as nails
slow and steady as a train
only by living is life worthy of the name
5. Pick the platform
leave you baggage unattended
do not have a ticket or a map
let passion
point your destination
and
in time
you will arrive!
6. Like life
everything flashes
past our windows
as we steam towards
our
inevitable.
final.
Destination.
7. We are only travellers
between
ceaseless darkness
and the
coming darkness
and it is up to
us
to step within the gap
between the two
and carry
its shine
in our hearts
its brightness
in our eyes
and to find a way
to call our
brief passage
between destinations
'Home'.
8. Sometimes
life is too hard
and like fare dodgers
on a train
we stay
in the toilet
until the inspector
has passed.
