I've realized

I've realized that this the way it is, this is the way I am.
One more attempt to figure it all out,
One more song of glory, one more reaching to the stars.

I've realized I am the prey, and not the hunter,
Not the boat, but the bay,
I realized the perpetrator was never really me,
How could I be to blame, then?

How could any of us be, when fate is whimsical and mad,
When we are land, nothing but land,
And it's Father Time who is the rain, and the life?
And it's not us who are to sing;
We are to listen.

I've realized,
That upon seeing a smile, one like no other, to my eyes,
It's my foolish heart what races, not I!

And if I were to draw the categorical hand,
That casts its order upon man,
Telling him and her, and they: 'you're nature's thus',
I would see you as my other, as myself in another,
And I'd tell you how I feel:
You're smile haunts me, it kills me,
But don't punish me for my sin;

Don't punish me,
I've realized it's not my own,
As nothing is ours at all.
