BLACK MOON
The black moon is about to rise
chasing the crescent moon…
beware of the night—
could take your soul
into its flight.
Before the night comes
cast off the spell that binds;
break those bad habits
and free your mind
while the moon
is waning…
Once the black moon has risen
chances of rebirth is ruined;
gloomy days of solitude
before the moon reaches
its greatest ecliptic latitude
should have changed your attitude.
I see no black moon rising—
darkness looms as trumpets
sound the uprising.
Red devils rushing, blood oozing
filling the hallowed ground,
as bodies pile up on the mound.
I think the moon is getting tired
watching the same scenes
playing over and over
ever since mankind is born.
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?
chasing the crescent moon…
beware of the night—
could take your soul
into its flight.
Before the night comes
cast off the spell that binds;
break those bad habits
and free your mind
while the moon
is waning…
Once the black moon has risen
chances of rebirth is ruined;
gloomy days of solitude
before the moon reaches
its greatest ecliptic latitude
should have changed your attitude.
I see no black moon rising—
darkness looms as trumpets
sound the uprising.
Red devils rushing, blood oozing
filling the hallowed ground,
as bodies pile up on the mound.
I think the moon is getting tired
watching the same scenes
playing over and over
ever since mankind is born.
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

This is one of those trance-like Writes Engr. Hypnotic and flowing-Haunting in that Pleasurable way!!!
As for learning-I think a small amount of humanity has and will-most of us don't, we rinse and repeat our flaws over and over-even if we have knowledge of the problems.
We are parasites even to ourselves -despite good hearts or bad.
Excellence Sir!!!

I'm trying to write a poem for your comp as the first stanza suggests, but I ended up doing this. Hopefully I could come out with something before the deadline.
Good point Soul and thanks for your excellent comment.

That's an interesting way of looking at humanity and its faults. Good read, EngrVV.

Thank you as always Grace...just like I mentioned earlier to Soul, this poem started for Soul's comp; just don't know why my thoughts flew so many thousands years back. Ahh so many thoughts yet in the end, we end up with just the same - a poem!

As long as mankind won't change his evil ways and greed comes first before the welfare of others, chances are you hit the bullseye Miki.
Thanks for the read and your kind words.

What is outstanding about this composition is has a deep meaning but yet it is accessible; if I was still teaching at the middle school level, I would be asking for permission to share it with my class.
For me it connects the imagination with what can be seen! Great job my friend!

I think I have that in my mind as well because I have seen this group performed in my neck of the woods before, as I happened to be a stone throw away from Lodi which they did back to back with Bad Moon Rising in 1969.
Thanks Miki!

Re: BLACK MOON
Reminds me of a classic.
Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing.
Society can change, and art can be a catalyst. But, the revolution doesn't mean another spin of the same old song. Continue to share outward by reaching inward. Plant something and support the local economy, so we don't solve our problems elsewhere. God help us all.

Tonight is "super moon." Maybe a lot of people are staring at the moon and writing poems!
