A Peek Into Me

A lil southern belle is what I was raised to be
The true meaning isn't what others percieve
Outsiders only see sweet perfection
A perfect lil princess from a perfect world
Trained from birth to smile thru the pain

Never daring to utter the words and express my fears
I swallowed it down deep and choked on it
Wanting so badly to cough it up and spit it out
But who would believe me
That this pillar of the community is that insane

I dared to speak up once as a preteen
Reached out and begged for help
They went straight to my torturer
I became a scared and scarred lil girl locked away
Behind those doors my tears flowed like rain

At first unsure if they were tears of hope
These were people with no ties to my family
They asked all the right questions but to the wrong person
Realization hit that she was not in control of them
She jerked me away and locked me in her closet again
