Evil Subtlety
Its evil is in subtlety,
Behind what the mind’s eye can deem,
It’s presence pure like virgin blood,
Untouched and so not seen.
The creak you know your room doesn’t make,
The shadow falling fast,
The seconds of panic you don’t expect,
And time that was meant to last.
The ease you feel; in the dark,
Gone bad as you grasp you’re alone,
The knowledge of been miles away,
But feeling like it’s home.
The kindness you give a stranger,
As you know it makes you feel good,
Translucent feelings you think you hide,
Stopping the future; by touching wood.
Tensing in harsh moments,
Joining hands when you pray,
Realising youth is life’s best gift,
Yet forgetting how to play.
The conversations you never had,
But it always been ‘their’ fault,
How loud you shout inside you mind,
Yet how little you revolt.
Always working on our weaknesses,
Never bettering our strengths,
Quietly conforming to what ‘they’ say,
Ignorant; attacks the best defence.
A New Year’s resolution made,
Accepting we change but once a year,
Declining until the summer comes,
Vacant until Christmas cheer.
Our faith in friends, who trespass,
Foolish content; that our Gods forgive,
Accepting second is second best,
And that life is there to live.
Looking back from an age too old,
Hoping a chance will set us free,
Our mind’s eye really missed it all,
Evils subtlety.
