Along the Shore
I ran up from the sea bank
where the long pink grasses comb away
my silent sullen soul
And in between my steps I saw
the Earth as clear as day
sunlight flashing off the waves
Two more steps along the shore
and the truth has slipped away
The clear and purest thought I found
between the half-light and the day
now lost in the memory pool
with the banal and the obscure
The stain of mere illusion,
the frustration of the lure
where the long pink grasses comb away
my silent sullen soul
And in between my steps I saw
the Earth as clear as day
sunlight flashing off the waves
Two more steps along the shore
and the truth has slipped away
The clear and purest thought I found
between the half-light and the day
now lost in the memory pool
with the banal and the obscure
The stain of mere illusion,
the frustration of the lure
