Shadow Demon

In the land of milk and honey,
A mighty eagle soared through,
Observing it's heavenly riches,
Then delivered the message to you.

Alligator lay egg, but him not foul,
People aren't always as they seem,
I mean, has it never occurred to you people,
This could be an illusive dream?

The congregation wallows in great desperation,
For this God-sent arcane medication,
That supposedly rids them of torment in life,
Till their heart's are unshackled from poverty and strife.

I could be a paragon of virtue,
Sent from the heavens above,
Or a shadow demon from the underworld,
A crow disguised as a dove.

Journey into the magnificent city,
To encounter dust and mist,
Dreams of paved gold, shatter to bits,
As they see ashes in their midst.

This perfect remedy may not exist?
They gasp...'No, it couldn't be..'
They'll ponder and disagree,
Fools are about to be tricked by me.

For the flesh only mirrors external excitement,
But the soul lays dead within,
From the beak of the eagle, spews the potion,
To unleash your cardinal sins.
