Mask

I pretend everything is fine
So no one knows this smile isn't mine
I hide behind a mask
Keeping my pain hidden from all who ask

This mask hides my sorrow
And gives me a smile to borrow
Sometimes it all seems like a dream
That no one can see past my clever scheme

How did it get so bad? When did I become so blind?
When did I construct a mask to hide behind?
Confusion, pain, and fear lie behind its eyes
Peer deeper into its gaze, see beyond all the lies

I wear a mask, isn't it beautiful?
What grins and lies can never be truthful
Look underneath its beauty, see beyond its tantalizing grin
And witness the battle I could never win

Look into my eyes, will you ever see past this charade?
Will you ever see the truth and come to my aid?
Or will I remain a prisoner of my own game?
Trapped in this darkness, subdued by my shame

Listen to my silent screams
Not everything is as perfect as it seems
See beyond this charade of beauty, see the truth behind the lies
And save me from this silent demise
