The Longest Nights
I turn into a little girl
On long, cold nights like this.
Time dissolves away revealing
The fissures underneath.
And I've a mind to run and hide
In bed, underneath my blankets.
But life insists I must stand firm
And steel myself to face it.
Pieces go numb as I endure
Icy memories long past.
The frostiness that envelops me
Takes my breath and makes me gasp.
On long, cold nights like this.
Time dissolves away revealing
The fissures underneath.
And I've a mind to run and hide
In bed, underneath my blankets.
But life insists I must stand firm
And steel myself to face it.
Pieces go numb as I endure
Icy memories long past.
The frostiness that envelops me
Takes my breath and makes me gasp.
