MY REFLECTION
(My entry for Miss_sub's 4x4 competition; like my title, my assigned topic was my reflection0
Confronted by his haunting stare
like a personal “Picture of Dorian Gray”
descended from the attic
now hanging over my bathroom sink
The deep worry-line incised in his forehead
bloodshot eyes festooned by dark bags
pock scarred, pale cheeks
all illuminated, accentuated by the incandescent vanity lights
My ever present doppelganger
well practiced in the art of deception
his bipolar objective is to at times decimate my ego
or carefully lull me into a false sense of well being
Heartless and superficial is he
an often distorted counterfeit of my true self
intrinsic is our link, never without the other
only I am the master of the viscera and soul that lies beneath my reflection
