The Girl in the Mirror

The Girl In The Mirror
By Desiree Grant

Dear Desiree,
It's just me again.
Knowing about your love to play pretend,
I ask you, how have you truly been?

Do you still enjoy watching the sun go from up to down?
What about reconstructing old magazines that you've found?
I hope you allow you're creativity to stick around.
And I know you must still have your job at the kids after school program from your hometown?

How's you constant struggle with the loss of your mom?
I understand how this loss can affect your teenaged life, but I have faith that you will go on.
How about your fear of cancer invading you like a life threatening bomb?
Here's some advice, Just take care of yourself, eat healthy, and keep calm.

I've watched you grow, develop, and learn.
I watched you lose your mom to cancer. I watched you're only known home burn.
I've watched you struggle with the care of your much loved nephews. I've watched you have to show them the way by occasionally being stern.

You're afraid to constantly fail and most of all your afraid of the people who will know.
You're so afraid to be different. But your differences are what make you unique. Hello!
You're afraid of your peers. That they think you're weird. That they don't understand your responsibilities of helping your nephews grow.
You're afraid that your childhood is being robbed but you make the best of it don't you know?

You're home has changed and so has your role as a child.
You've come from a spoiled little girl to a mature adult in seconds per mile.
It bothers you how much your responsibilities have began to pile.
And it bothers you how sometimes it feels like your the only fish in the whole Nile.
You ought to be as proud as me, I watch you juggle your life as well as the lives of others and you still manage to keep a smile.

You definitely have potential to go places and pursue your dreams.
Just cage and package up all your fears and insecurities
Send them far far away on a large boat out to sea.
And you'll notice a boost of confidence, trust me.

I see your dreams coming true.
You have potential to be whatever it is you wish to pursue.
I know that you need company, horses, and art in your life, because you do.

You are a cheerful, appreciative, and respectful young lady.
Your school work and concentration may be shady,
but I know you are also very determined, faithful, and eager
I could go on all day about how you are such a creative intriguer.

Word on the street is your life isn't making you happy? Maybe your going through a bit of confusion?
Well those aren't just wasted nights you spend watching the sun go down. Oh no that, my dear, is inspiration well used, I've come to conclusion.
That's not just a bunch of garbage you've cut from hundreds of magazines. How bout a masterpiece? Or a work of art through fusion?
You dont even realize how much creativity you have and you haven't noticed how it has made tons of unique solutions.
Well, and I know for sure, you are going to start a movement if you continue to fulfill your need of making sure all children are safe from the world's pollution.

I hate to go on about your disappointments so, I apologize now.
But, what you need to keep in mind is I will always be here for you. It doesn't matter how.
I guess I'm just making sure you're floating up stream and that you haven't drowned.
But keep in touch my friend and what do all the bad things matter anyhow?
Sincerely yours,
The girl in the mirror.
