When you are with someone
for more than half your life
and things fall apart
I think it is normal as things get
closer to the real ending
for emotions to run
higher, anger to be closer
to the surface
grievances held back
to be suddenly ripped
to the forefront no matter
how hard you try to keep
them at bay

maybe things even come up
you knew were there
but never wanted to hear

having someone tell you
after all this time
that they are sorry they
hurt you, and that they broke
their vows to you,
and yet can't really remember
anything that happened
clearly in the last twelve years
that you were together,
but they still love you...

somehow, only made it worse.
